The Out-going President, Rotary Club of Ikeja, District 9110, 2019/2020 Rotary year, Rotarian Olumuyiwa Fagbola has listed the Rotary achievements in the last one year.

Fagbola who was sworn- in in July, 2019 being the start of Rotary Year said at a virtual meeting of the Club while handing over to the new President, Rotarian Dotun Lampejo that the Club was able to touch all its six areas of focus which include Education and Literacy; Disease Prevention and Treatment, Maternal and Childcare, Water and Sanitation, Economic and Community Development and Peace and Conflict Resolution.

“This Rotary year, on Education and Literacy, the Club donated a three blocks of class rooms to Ikeja Junior High School as well as an e-learning application to the school. The Club also extended the project to Babs Fafunwa Millennium Secondary School, Ojodu, Ikeja.

“For Disease Prevention and Treatment we were able to donate Hospital equipment to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, LASUTH, Ikeja.

Water and Sanitation: The Club donated borehole facility to Ikeja Military Cantonment and recently, to mark the month of water and sanitation, the Club in partnership with Rotary Club of Shagamu Central with the collaboration of Sir Kesington Adebutu Foundation embarked on a Twin Club Project, with the donation and commissioning of a portable water borehole at the Palace of the Alaperu of Iperu Remo, Ogun State.

The Club also donated Environmental Sanitation materials to the Obada Ipodo Market Association in Ikeja to further support and encourage them to continue to keep the market clean and safe for themselves and their customers.

Economic and Community Development: Provision of interest free micro credit loan to the tune of N1million for 40 beneficiaries at the sum of N25, 000 per person for the Market Women of Obada Market in Isolo.

Also, provision of Vocational and Empowerment tools to the Nigerian Air Force Officer’s Wives Association (NAFOWA) Vocational Centre, Ikeja as well as other vocational centres in Ikeja, Agidingbi, Ikorodu and Oregun.

On Maternal and Child Care, Fagbola said the Club was able to have its regular visit to Modupe Cole Memorial Child Care and Treatment Home to donate mattresses, floor mats, toiletries, beddings, food items and other hygiene materials to the Home and donation of Medical Equipment to LASUTH management and gift items to patients on admission.

“For Peace and Conflict Resolution, the Club gave scholarship awards to University of Ibadan, Oyo State Students studying Peace and Conflict Studies and donation of relief materials to Internally Displaced People’s Camp at Igando and over 200 people benefitted from it.

The President also added that the club was part of the star project of the District, District 9110 which was prevention of cervical cancer where many girls were vaccinated against the disease. “We are also part of the Polio eradication which Rotary International had embarked on for many years.”

He used the opportunity to thank the board and members of the Club for their support in the last Rotary Year and urge them to continue in the spirit of Rotary which always supports the society as well as to support the incoming president.

Rotarian Fagbola also gave awards to some members for their support in the last one year.

Speaking after the handover formalities, the new President, Rotarian Dotun Lampejo congratulated the outgoing President for a wonderful year saying the new executive will try their best not to lower the standard.

He however urged members to continue to support the club especially because of new normal which everyone is trying to conform to.

“Year 2020 is a different year because of the Corona Virus pandemic and to be able to raise funds for projects will need a lot of commitment on the part of members.”

Rotarian Lampejo added that the way the Club gets their funds is going to be different this time hence all hands must be on deck to achieve the Club is set to achieve in the New Year.

Cross section of members who spoke at the meeting reiterated the need to support the incoming president a lot because according to them the Club need to start the year with sufficient fund because Rotary is about projects.

They urged individual to prepare their minds to support in different ways to source for funds.
