….As it prepares to graduate over 8000 students at 33rd convocation
The Rector, Yaba College of Technology, Lagos, Engr. Obafemi Omokungbe has said the institution will continue to produce graduates poised to develop both the economic and human capital of the country.
He stated this during the press briefing held at the institution on Tuesday on the activities lined up to mark the 33rd convocation ceremony of the college.
According to him, the college since inception has produced graduates who are in enviable positions in all works of life both public and private sectors and have contributed immensely to the socio-economic and political development of the nation.
“From the engineering fields through to science and technology, the environment through to the fields of management and recently, in the fields of agriculture and mass communication, graduates of Yaba College of Technology are making significant impacts in the match towards the industrial and technological advancement of Nigeria.”
He said aside the fact that graduates of the college are equipped with technical education; they are trained with specific skills which can make them an employer or self-employed.
The rector added that in pursuit of the college focal points, the institution under the current administration has continued to advance in strides towards achieving academic excellence. “We have been able to maintain a fairly stable calendar in the last two sessions in pursuit of acceptable academic standards.
“We have improved on physical infrastructure both in Epe and Yaba campuses of the college and we have also completed all the inherited projects and have initiated the construction of new projects,” he disclosed.
On capacity building, Omokungbe said over three hundred staff were sponsored for trainings, workshops and conferences apart from those on TETFUND sponsorship.
Highlighting the programme for the convocation ceremony for the graduating class of 2017/2018 academic session, he said the ceremony is a weeklong and will commence on Friday, November 15, 2019 with Jumat service and an inter-denominational thanksgiving service on Sunday, November 17, 2019 at 4pm.
The convocation lecture titled: “Ethical Values, Good Governance and Nation Building slated for November 18, 2019 will be delivered by the Justice Olubunmi Oyewole, a Judge of the Court of Appeal.
The climax of the ceremony according to him comes up on Thursday, November 21st, 2019 when a total number of Eight thousand, four hundred and eleven (8,411) graduating students will be awarded the National and Higher National Diploma of the college.
“The distinguished guest of honour at the convocation is the Honourable Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu and other guests are the chairman of council, Prince Lateef Fagbemi (SAN) and members of council, the Executive Secretary, National Board for Technical Education officials of the Federal Ministry of Education, visiting heads of sister institutions, college fellows and the Alumni Association.
