The Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, SAN, has assured Lagosians of good roads across the state.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the Lagos State University, Ojo first research fair held at the institution today, Fashola said that the Lagos-Badagry Express way which had in the past brought different comments from citizens of the federal government non-challant attitude to the country’s development would soon be addressed.
He added that the road with some others were constructed in the 70s during the period of oil boom and people have been complaining that nothing was done on the roads.
“I can confirm to you now that On the Lagos-Badagry Expressway, sections have been awarded and works are ongoing.
“The problematic section has been the one from Agbara to Ojo, but now, we have also awarded that section and work is being done. So, three different contractors are working on this road.
He however point to the fact that markets are springing up on the highways. “Since what we want is highways, we must take responsibility for the menace of markets on the highways.
“Construction works are also ongoing on the roads connecting Lagos. Therefore, we must be patient to see the results in a few months.
The minister said the constructions will naturally bring some discomfort and inconveniences but urged Lagosians and other states around it to please bear the discomfort for now and in a matter of time, they will reap the benefits.
