………..Graduates 215 First Class
Covenant University, Ota, Ogun State has for the first time produce a perfect score of 5:00 at its 14th convocation held on Friday.
The best student of the university, Miss Ajia Motunrayo is from the department of petroleum Engineering from College of Engineering obtained Cumulative Grade Point of 5:00.
This came after a Cumulative Grade Point of 4.99 in 2016.
In her valecditory message, the excited Motunrayo thanked the university for an enabling environment to study.
Also thanked her parents for their support and words of encouragement with helped her through her stay in the university.
In his remarks, the chancellor, Covenant University, Ota, Ogun State, Dr. David Oyedepo urged African countries to always face it’s challenges with local solutions.
To him African countries has what it takes to deal with its challenges in all aspects of the economy.
He however said that to be able to do this, there was the need to have a new nation and continent and pivotal to this is education.
He therefore said to uphold the standard of education there was the need to stop adapting foreign culture that Africans imbibe from other continent which does not apply to the world African live here.
On what makes the university unique, the Chancellor said it is through it’s enhance and creativity in finding a way out of every situation.
“It is also the way we build capacity of men through our custom build programme for our students which help them to face the challenges of life.
In his remarks, the Vice-chancellor, rof. Aaron Atayero said Covenant vision to be listed among the top ten universities in the world by 2023 is snowballing into reality.
” Presently, Covenant is ranked in 601-800 bracket in the Times Higher Education World University Ranking for 2019.”
According to him, this ranking places Covenant as the best university in Nigeria and West Africa as well as being among the top 97th percentile of universities in the world.
“Out of the 442 universities in THE Emerging Economies university ranking in 2019, Covenant was ranked 151.
“As a leading world university, Covenant University is committed to supporting and encouraging research and development work aimed at providing innovative solutions to societal problems.
On quality education, Atayero said Covenant University has been providing life-long learning opportunities through granting public access to resources of the university’s centre of learning resources.
The keynote speaker and Pioneer Director of Community Computer Centre of ECOWAS, Dr. Monisoye Afolabi on the topic Higher Education as a manufacture industry said there was need to revisit the privatisation of education.
He said this is important in order to have quality graduates that can compete any where in the world.
“We also need to fast forward to the past where we pride our economy and more especially to train our graduates what they need to excel as they take on the world.”
The Executive Secretary, National Universities Commission, NUC, Prof. Abubakar Rasheed commended the university for it’s quality assurance and it’s feat among world universities.
He urged the graduating students to hold on to the quality of education they got from the university to continue to excel.
A total of 1, 341 Bachelor’s degrees with 215 first class among them was the son of the publisher and Editor in Chief of Brand Visibility Magazine, Mr. Temitope Akinsiku who graduated with first class in Architecture.
Also a total of 239 higher degrees in various disciplines graduated at the event.
